Edaphosaurus was a type of synapsid/mammal like reptile, called a pelycasaur.
Edaphosaurus lived in the late Carboniferous early Permian periods.
It was distinctly recognized by its large sail. Its sail was probaly used to heat itself up and to show off. Although 3 meters (10 feet) long, this creature was shorter than an average Homo Sapien. Although they may look intimidating, these creatures were actually peaceful herbivores.
Also, they were more related to mammals than the dinosaurus.
They were closely related to the carnivorious Dimetrodon. They were not armored, and relied mostly on their bulk for their defence. Although, on their sail, there was an eye spot that looked like its eye, that was used for scaring away possible predators like Dimetrodon, their rival carnivorious pelycasaur. It was a mammal like reptile.

In Walking With....Edit
Edaphosaurus was shown in walking with monsters, reptiles beginnings. At the beginning of the 2nd half of the episode, a herd of edaphosaurus was basking in the early morning sun. Then, a dimetrodon came and killed a young edaphosaurus, as the young calf did not stand a chance. Edaphosaurus made its final appearance in the episode when it was shown, eating plants in the summer time again, "while the young test their newly found strength".
